How to Apply for Blooming Minds Young Writers Award (BMYWA) 2017

Blooming Minds Young Writers Award  (BMYWA) is aimed at nurturing a writing culture in our youth community by recognising and rewarding children with creative writing skills.

Prepare and equip young people as well as promote excellent literacy development amongst children in Africa. This award is also about promoting African literature by encouraging young African writers in engaging their minds to create stories based on an African setting or theme.

BMYWA’s vision is to  create a platform that will promote more African authors from a very young age whose work will be recognized worldwide through telling the African story. The birth of BMYWA will go a long way to change how the world perceives African literature and address the shortage of young African writers.

Research shows that creative writing in children helps to build conceptual This competition will challenge children to think outside the box, exhibit and nurture talents that are dormant in them.

The competition runs every year and is open to all kids between the ages of 6-15 years and is grouped as follows:

  • CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION Ages 9-15 – Fiction or Non-Fiction, not more than 500 words.
  • SHORT STORIES & POETRY Ages 6-9 – Not more than 300 words.
