The leadership of the Students’ Union arising from an Executive Council meeting held on 28th March, 2017 at the Conference Hall Aluta House deliberated on important issues ranging from various Directorates, Students’ complains/welfare and sustainability of peace on campus. The following resolutions were reached:

1. Giant Developmental Strides:

The Students’ Union appreciates and commends the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ndowa E. S. Lale on his Giant developmental strides across the University.

2. 31st Convocation Ceremony:

The students’ Union congratulates the Vice Chancellor and the entire management for a successful and hitch-free celebration of the 31st Convocation ceremony of the University.

3. Constitution Review:

The Executive Council has approved the review of the Union’s Constitution, thus the opinion and inputs from the student will form the fulcrum on which the students’ law book will be reviewed.

4. Directorates:

The leadership of the Students’ Union in her bid to improve on the welfare of her students directs the various Directorates to lias with the service providers on campus such as park management, food vendors etc for effective services and possible partnership in the interest of our students.

5. Complains, Threat and Victimization:

Henceforth, all complains, threat and victimization of students should be properly channeled to the secretariat of the Students’ Union for urgent response so as to avoid build up of agitation and unnecessary protest on campus. Note, only the Students’ Union executives has the right to call for a peaceful protest on campus when all form of dialogue fails, thus students and student associations are hereby advised to channel all their complains to the leadership of the Students’ Union Government.

6. Payment of Fees:

Students are hereby advised to take all fees payment serious, thus monies given to the students by their parents, guardian and sponsors should not be diverted for luxurious use and risky ponzi schemes as fees payment is very important for effective running of the University.

7. Change of Students Union Staff Adviser:

Although, the concept of a Staff Adviser for the Students’ Union is alien to our constitution but we sincerely wish to hold on to this conventional provision, hence the decision to continue the trend. The Executive Council of the Students’ Union unanimously appoints Prof. Femi O. Shaka, a former Dean of Students’ Affairs and current Dean, Faculty of Humanities as the new Staff Adviser of the Students’ Union. This has become necessary following the urgent need to tap into the experience of another Staff Adviser. Considering his sterling records and the cordial relationship he enjoys with the students, we have no doubt in his ability to function effectively.
By this appointment, Prof. Andrew Efemini is no longer the Students’ Union staff adviser.

8. Parasitic Attitude of Recent Former SUG Presidents:

The Union frowns at the parasitic attitude of some recent former SUG Presidents of the University in the name of NANS whose interest is to continually cause problems and tension in our unique University. The leadership of the Students’ Union has resolved that only Students with valid matriculation number and good leadership track record will have the support of the Union for NANS representation.

9. Secretary of NANS Zone B

The management and security agencies should ignore all letters from the secretary of NANS zone B (Felix Nwizua) – a former Students’ Union President claiming to speak for students of University of Port Harcourt as he has no right to speak for students when he is no longer a student. Therefore, the Students’ Union Government of the University of Port Harcourt forthwith warns this aluta Shylock (now broke) Felix Nwizua and his cohorts/mischief makers to stay clear from the activities of the Union, as the union will no longer tolerate their greed-driven, pretentious, destructive aluta struggle and ill-advice that is not always in the interest of our students and peace of the University. It is on record that Felix Nwizua is the biggest betrayer of the Students’ struggle in the history of the Students’ Union in Uniport and as such, lacks the moral justification to spearhead any genuine students’ struggle. We are aware of his antics to cause disaffection and division in the University in particular and the state at large in search of monetary bargain. He will be disappointed and disgraced by the resolve of the students. We therefore, urge the university and the general public to disregard any insinuation from Felix Nwizua and his cohorts of broke business comrades. It is no longer business as usual.

10. Departmental, Ethnic/State Elections:

That all departmental, ethnic/state elections be formally communicated to the Students’ Union for proper coordination and fixing of dates to avoid any clash or possible breakdown of law and order within and outside the University environments. Any election that does not meet up with this criteria or requirement will be considered illegal and the Executive Council/Electoral Committee involved will be appropriately held accountable.

11. Finally, the leadership of the Students’ Union Government assures our students of purposeful and intellectually driven leadership for the peace and development of the University. Thus we hereby appeal for supports from all students and stakeholders.

ALUTA CONTINUA
VICTORIA ASCERTA.
