A meeting scheduled by the Minister of Transportation and leader of All Progressive Congress, APC, in Rivers State Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi with APC youths from the 23 local government areas of Rivers State could not hold after all.
The meeting billed for last Saturday at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt was said to have been boycotted by the youths for what they described as lack of care and attention by the party leadership.
The youths were said to have insisted that unless their party leadership fulfils the promise to empower them they will have nothing to do with them.
One of the youths, who spoke to newsmen, Comrade Adokiye Sokari-George was said to have been distraught:
‘’Why should we hold meeting with any body after being abandoned all this while. All the promises made to the youths since the inception of the party has not been met. We are particularly angry with the Nigerian way the empowerment said to be handled by NIMASA and Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, are being managed.
A situation where you cannot get what is due you unless you belong to a particular camp is not acceptable to us, and unless it is reversed there will be no meeting with any body.
Recall that, at a recent meeting of the party stakeholders at Lassmall in Rumukalagbor area of Port Harecourt, the factions of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Magnus Abe and Dakuku Peterside were reportedly involved in a free for all over who gets the party’s 2019 governorship ticket in Rivers State.
Although Gift Okpara, one of the media aides to Amaechi denied the story, there were indications that efforts are being made to smoothen the rough edges so the APC leader in Rivers State can meet with the aggrieved youths soonest.
